The next election for CBAALAS will take place in the fall 2024! Each fall CBAALAS holds an election to fill vacant positions on the council. All elected positions are 3 year terms. The election opens each November and results are announced at the next Awards Reception the following January. Newly elected members will begin their term in January when results are announced, and attend their first council meeting in February. Council meetings are currently held at 3:30PM the second Tuesday of each month but may change as needed to accommodate the majority of the group and/or based on need when planning events. The first council meeting is typically in person to allow new members to get to know the rest of the group. The remaining meetings are via teleconference or zoom unless meeting in person prior to a scheduled event (e.g. general membership meeting). |

Why should you consider running for a position on the CBAALAS Council? | Serving on the CBAALAS council is a great way to give back to the local laboratory animal science community, bring fresh ideas to the council, network, learn about event planning and association management, and prepare for a committee or leadership role in national AALAS. |
Elected Position Descriptions |
Council Member | This position is a great way to get started on a path to local leadership and beyond. The responsibilities of a Council Member include attending monthly council meetings and essentially any task delegated by the President, including seeking out and recruiting speakers, contributing new ideas to the council, researching venues for events, working local events, and more. It is a great first step to learning about association management and event planning before considering running for an officer position with greater responsibility. |
President-Elect | This officer position is a 3-year term and is recommended for individuals with prior experience on the council and the dedication to see CBAALAS continue to thrive and grow. For the first year of the term the President-Elect works closely with the current President to plan any upcoming events such as the CMC, General Membership Meetings, the District 6 Meeting, Awards Reception, the election, and more. S/he also fills in for the President when necessary by leading meetings in the President's absence. The second year of the term is served as President during which s/he is responsible for delegating tasks appropriately, leading council meetings, creating agendas, making announcements at the meetings, and taking the lead in planning upcoming events. The third year of the term is served as Past President during which s/he mentors the current President in order to ease the transition of leadership and keep CBAALAS running smoothly. |
Treasurer | This officer position is a 3-year term and is recommended for individuals with prior experience on the council and the dedication to see CBAALAS continue to thrive and grow. The Treasurer handles all financial responsibilities for the association, including banking, CDs, taxes, reimbursements, liability insurance, financial reports, and more. The Treasurer also participates in event planning and provides financial and budgeting guidance to the council. |
Secretary | This officer position is a 3-year term and is recommended for individuals with prior experience on the council and the dedication to see CBAALAS continue to thrive and grow. The Secretary handles administrative responsibilities for the association, including membership, event registration, meeting minutes, forms, collecting nominations, running the election, and other responsibilities as needed. The Secretary also participates in event planning. |
